Papers
As a professor of English and history, all of my courses require some type of paper. However, even within the broad categories listed below, the specific requirements for those papers vary from class to class and from semester to semester.
- Portfolios
When I teach ENG 101, I require that students complete a portfolio. Sometimes, the individual essays in the portfolio are also indexed under "Essay."
- Film Resources
My ENG 200 students have select ans analyze short films from a variety of points of view. In the process, they have compiled a list of resources which can be used by future film students. My HIST 151 students have compiled a recommended list of You Tube videos that can be used to teach about Native Americans.
- Essays
Essays are short papers which are less than 1,000 words in a variety of rhetorical modes.
- Creation Stories
In my ancient world history class, we study creation stories. As part of this module, I ask students to create a creation story of their own.
- Research Papers
Research papers are formal papers completed using MLA or APA format. These papers typically require a variety of quality references including peer reviewed journals which can be found in Schoolcraft College's on-line databases.
- Reflections
Reflections are short papers--typically 250 words or less. Often, the reflections were originally included in the student's blog or were written after attending a campus event.
