Chinese Art in “Introduction to Art and Music”

Narrative Description of the Module

This module describes the type of Chinese Art in the Ming Dynasty. I researched Ming Dynasty Art. I gave a brief description about the Ming Dynasty. I also described the different types of Art the had at that time and new processes in which they used a new enameling process which made the vase more durable and more shine. I also describe the influence on other cultures like Japan. Doing all this give a brief informational lecture on the Chinese art in the Ming Dynasty.

Educational Objectives of the Module

The objective of this is to give a brief but better understanding of the Chinese art from the Ming Dynasty and its influences on other cultures.

Outline of Lectures/Discussions Used to Implement the Module

The lecture begins by giving a brief overview of China and the Ming Dynasty.

The focus of the lecture will be on the art of the Ming Dynasty; especially how the Ming Dynasty had more color in their artwork. New methods of art—such as the new enameling process which gave the artwork more of better glaze and made it more durable then before—will also be covered.

The influences that China’s artwork had on Japan were great. This influence can be understood by focusing on one painter: Sesshu Toyo.

Sesshu Toyo was a Japanese Monk who traveled to China and studied Chinese art at various schools for 10 years. After 10 years Sesshu Toyo moved back to Japan where he opened his own school. Sesshu Toyo was famous for his school but also for combining Chinese art and Japanese art and making it a new type of art.
