In early American history, I often ask students to write a poem from the Puritan mind set.

"You Have Brought Me the Birds"

by Amanda Ayyash

You have brought me the birds,
You have shown me the light.
I hope to care for the herds,
And I will fight.....for you.

You brought me my kin,
But I have sinned.
So show me the way,
And I will pray.

When I had sorrow,
You showed me tomorrow.
So, thank you for the things you brought,
For I will never be distraught.
