In early American history, I often ask students to write a poem from the Puritan mind set.

"I Can God"

by Gina Curran

I see Gods beauty
In the pink morning sky
I see Gods beauty
In the purple sunset’s goodbye
When I feel my small child’s hand
It is God’s reminder
To tell me I can
I can show them your way God
I can show them you’re good
I can show them your way God
The way that I should.

Author's Reflection

As Scott Atkins pointed out, the Puritan people were very religious people. They were also fearful people. They were fearful of witches and of God. It is hard to say which they feared more, so they worshiped their God and taught their children to worship their God.
