In early American history, I often ask students to write a poem from the Puritan mind set. A complete list of student poems is available. |

"Thou Wished it Were Summer Vacation"
by Jennifer Waugaman
Thou wished it were summer vacation
No more students to teachith
No more parents to bother thee
Lesson plans, gradebooks, tests are a thing of thee past
Getting up early no more for thee
Runny noses, tattling botherith me no more
At last I found salvation in the last day of school

Well saidth o' friend in education,
The sun setteth - we longeth for a vacation.
The littleth darling is like the smallest of sparrow
waiting for the tinyest of wisdom that cut to'eth the bone and marrow.
Papers checketh, blackboards washed with the utmost of care,
we resteth our weiry feet till August cometh and we are ready for all the
minds and a blank stare.
This new class is so youngeth- how will the grow? watering, patience and a great smile,
they love their new teacher long before it begins to snow.

I love it! I feel the same way! I work at a daycare so I deal with those things everyday... it definitely has its pros and cons. But I can relate.
