In early American history, I often ask students to write a poem from the Puritan mind set. A complete list of student poems is available. |

"Winter Comes and Winter Goes"
by Katie Schrock
Winter comes and winter goes,
The springtime is my time of fun.
With singing birds all gay with song,
All through the winter I do long.
For sun and rain make flowers bloom,
Their sweet scent makes me love this time.
As quick as it came it will be gone,
Summer, fall, and then dreaded winter once more.
Eventually the winter will melt away
Bring sweet spring back for many days.
Oh sweet spring why must you go?
Leaving me longing for your sweet return

(How sweet) to speak about the weather so dramatically... I’m a nature person and everything about the seasons and the plants outside are very exciting to me... and it may be not important to others but it is to me... GREAT JOB!!!
The pilgrims appreciated nature and what it had to offer....
