In early American history, I often ask students to write a poem from the Puritan mind set.
A complete list of student poems is available.

"Erupting in the Sky"

by Ruth Cangialosi

Erupting in the sky, thunder
Your voice is a single drop in this downpour
It is I whom for you yearns
A crackle in the sky lights your face
And for a moment, I can see you.
Can I see You? Or perhaps, I can see only a glimpse
Of your beauty, your glory and your grace.
