In early American history, I often ask students to write a poem from the Puritan mind set.

"Grandpa"

by Stacey Boland

I will always remember how you envied my youth " Enjoy your life, and always have fun, oh for what I would give if only to be young."

From my first cup of tea, dunk it 23 times just like me. To the last time I saw you in the hospital that day. "I love you grandpa" are the last words I'd say.

With embarrassment in your eyes, I took the spoon with tears inside. Now it's my turn to care for you, I said, as for me you always do.

I knew you were tired. I knew you were in pain. I knew you would never be well on this Earth again. Still selfishly I prayed, Please god let us keep him. For I was not ready yet to release him.

Yet God called upon him and lifted him to rest. With our eyes filled with tears we knew it was for the best.

So until we meet again in God's Kingdom. I love you grandpa, I will never forget you, and in my heart I will always keep you.
